If foot odour is causing you problems, worry no more because we are here to help you overcome it.
It is a huge turn off for many people walking around majestically with smelling feet.
There are practices that will reduce the endless embarrassment and once improve your physical well-being.
This is not your habitual feet washing that you employ every day but a specialized technique in eradicating the odour.
Under this category, we have explained four special ways of cleaning them.
Scrubbing your feet – it sounds obvious but a quick rub with soapy water in the shower isn’t enough. This is so to get rid of dead skin cells where bacteria may likely feed and multiply on.
When you wash your feet, exfoliate the entire surface of your foot with a washcloth, brush or traditional stones if you hail from upcountry.
Use antibacterial soap and ensure that you scrub in between your toes thoroughly.
Drying your feet – When you dry your feet, dry them completely. Moisture, whether it is water or sweat, creates a fertile breeding ground for bacteria.
As much as drying is significant, don’t take chances in through cleaning in between the toes.
Use hand sanitizer – Hand sanitizer can kill germs on your feet and inhibit bacteria growth. Alternatively, using lemon juice or cactus is recommended.
Use antiperspirant –An antiperspirant is an astringent substance applied to the skin to reduce perspiration (Sweat).
To the dry feet, apply the antiperspirant at night, and put on socks and shoes in the morning for daily activities.
The feet will remain fresh and waterless throughout the day. Avoid applying when moving out because it may cause slipping, endangering your movement. Ensure the feet are dried completely.
Always make sure that you freshen your foot wear daily without repeatedly wearing the same socks or shoes in a row.
In freshening the footwear, ensure the following:
Wear sandals or open shoes – Wearing open shoes let the air flow around your feet, keeping them cool and prevent from producing more sweat.
It will evaporate quickly due to air circulation, leaving the feet clean and fresh.
Change your socks daily – Socks absorb your sweat when you wear them and it dries when you take them off.
Putting on a dirty pair of socks for the second day in a row will contribute to more foul smell.
When you wash your socks, turn them inside out so that the dead flakes of skin have a better chance being washed away.
Wash your shoes regularly – Many shoes can be thrown in the washing machine, Just make sure they dry thoroughly before putting them on.
Baby powder– Applying baby powder in your shoes and socks will help dry out any future odours.
Salt water – Apply half a cup of salt for every quart of water. After soaking, don’t rinse your feet and instead dry them thoroughly.
