As the old adage goes, we are what we eat. Eating healthy foods decipher into living a healthy life. Getting ready-made foods or altered food source is common in the newfangled times.

Nutrition plays a momentous role in the growth, maintenance of the body and prevention of diseases. If these foods fall short of the basic nutritional value, it shouldn’t be part of the standard diet.

We all consume processed foods in our very own homes or restaurants. First and foremost, what are these processed foods? These are foods that have gone through the process of modification, altering from its original form.

The major health nuisance surrounding processed food is the level of the uncontrolled amount of salt, sugar and fat, and, raises the level of sugar in the body.

In some scenarios, techniques such as pasteurisation, freezing, baking, and drying are borrowed to make it convenient or harmless.

White bread, bacon, granola bars, flavoured nuts, cookies, cheese, cakes, muffins and artificial sweeteners are some of the examples. Not all processed foods are harmful.

When purchasing from food joints or supermarkets; be mindful of the labels or best alternative; cook simple meals at home.

Refined foods

Don’t have all of its original ingredients and mostly put on the shelves at homes so that it is used for a longer period of time.

It includes white rice, sugary cereals, packaged foods, chips, yogurt and other condensed milk. The problem with refined is that there is no nutritional value.

Greasy food

These are foods with high content of oil. Fried chicken, French fries, samosa, pizza could be one of the mouthwatering dishes for you but healthwise, it is discouraged.

The worrying part about high cholesterol is that it inhibits the flow of blood through the arteries and causes cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke.

Sugary foods

Consumption of sugary foods is associated with high blood glucose concentration, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, and recent research reveals the danger of causing cancer in the gallbladder.

Take control of your diet. Never habitualize or you will be expanding your waistline sooner or later and, most importantly calling for ailments which you could otherwise prevent.

When figuring out the presence of sugar, look out for these names in the item ingredient: sugar, glucose, brown sugar, cane sugar, fructose, corn sweetener, dextrose, syrup, sucrose, and nectars.
